Recently, I was asked about the importance I place on learning and development in my life. For me, it's more than just a pathway to acquire new skills—it's synonymous with freedom and opportunity.
Throughout my career, a significant portion of my 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 that allowed me to expand my capacities. One of those pivotal moments goes back to when I was just 14, scooping ice cream at Baskin Robbins.
Jeff Jeans, the owner, recognized something in me and decided to challenge me with a new role—creating clown cones (𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦?). As I proved my capability in that role, he elevated me to a higher challenge—becoming the key trainer for a groundbreaking technology: the introduction of the waffle cone.
Learning how to use the waffle cone machine involved trial and error, but Jeff's faith in my abilities didn't stop there. He entrusted me with the responsibility of training the more experienced and older employees. Little did I know, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻.
I am immensely grateful for leaders like Jeff Jeans, who invest in their team, provide challenges, and foster growth.
𝗧𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗲𝗳𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲—𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂! Your commitment to investing, challenging, and growing your employees has a positive, cascading impact not only on individuals but also on organizations and the world at large. Let's continue to create environments where learning thrives and opportunities abound.
